Frequently Asked Questions

How does Blue Heron PTA support my child?

PTA is proud to have sponsored, funded or staffed a variety of events and programs. Here are a few examples:

  • In the classroom: teacher grants, field trips, books, magazine subscriptions, online math and reading curriculum support, ergo equipment for kids, sensory equipment for kids and playground equipment.

  • Outside the classroom: Family Fun nights, Trunk or Treat, Family Dance, Skate City Nights, Family Math Night, International Night..and more!

Why join Blue Heron PTA?

We are part of the National Parent Teacher Association® (PTA) which is the oldest child advocacy organization in the United States. The National PTA provides parents and families with a powerful legislative voice to speak on behalf of every child and the best tools to help their children be safe, healthy, and successful—in school and in life.

Your membership is your voice (legislative voice) for the children of Blue Heron Elementary. The more members our PTA has, the more voting delegates we receive at the state level. More voting delegates means more votes that support the interests of our students and families. Our kids are worth the investment and a strong PTA illustrates our community’s support to our school and children.

How does PTA benefit me?

It pays to be a member! Colorado State PTA and National PTA have made some strong partnerships with businesses and you can take advantage of the benefits. Check out some of the savings available:

You will also have access to our PTA Bi-Weekly “Aviator Connection” Newsletter to keep informed of PTA and school events, as well as other district and community events that may be of interest.

Is my membership fee tax-deductible?

Yes! Your membership fee, any memberships you sponsor – and any additional donation amount IS tax deductible!!

Who can join?

Anyone can be a PTA member! PTA membership is open to everyone! Parents, teachers, guardians, students, grandparents, friends, extended family, neighbors, etc.

PTA is an inclusive organization and we invite all adults who care about children and schools to join. Although you may still participate in PTA activities without a formal membership, by joining you gain the right to vote on PTA issues – from board members to budgets! Join Today!

If I can’t afford a membership, can I still get one?

YES! We have completely confidential membership scholarships that are available to anyone who requests. Request a scholarship by emailing our Membership Chair. Only the membership chair will know who requested one and she will not share that information. She will request that the treasurer mark one of the available scholarships as used – and she will enter the membership into the database like every other membership.

As a PTA member, do I need to volunteer?

It is optional how active of a member you would like to be. We welcome our wonderful volunteers in the programs and events we plan for the year! We also encourage member participation in general meetings and other activities. However, the amount of involvement with the PTA is your choice.

Do I need to come to meetings?

NO– you do not have to attend any meetings!!! There is no meeting requirement for members. But we’d love to see you! PTA offers general membership meetings eight times a year (usually the 2nd Thursday of every month) and we work hard to use the time to communicate important information and share programs on topics of interest to our families. Meetings are a great way to connect with other people in our school community and learn about the goings-on at Blue Heron.
